Police hiring lists drop unfit candidates

Appointing authorities can ask the local civil service commissioner to remove a police candidate from the eligible list. They can do this when the candidate fails psychological fitness or lacks the good moral character set by the Municipal Police Training Council. The commissioner must remove the candidate right away after the request. This power applies despite any other law and takes effect immediately.
