Stronger penalties for notaries giving legal advice

Beginning November 1, 2026, a conviction for violating subsection B of Section 6 is a misdemeanor. You face up to a $1,000 fine, up to one year in county jail, or both. After a final judgment against a notary for that violation, the Secretary of State revokes the notary’s appointment for eight years. The revocation follows a judgment from an Oklahoma district court or an equivalent court from a foreign jurisdiction.
