Cities must, schools may host polling

Beginning November 1, 2026, voters get more options for local polling places. Municipal governments that held a county-run election on or after January 1, 2023 must provide rooms in their buildings for polling, at no cost, when asked in writing by the county election board secretary. This applies only if they own, rent, or lease a building in or near a precinct that has no suitable polling place. School boards may also offer rooms in school buildings at no cost when they get a written request.
