Beginning November 1, 2026, media outlets are not covered by the Oklahoma Consumer Protection Act for content they republish when they did not know it was unlawful. Retailers and other sellers are also shielded when they act in good faith on information supplied by others and did not know it was deceptive. These businesses face fewer consumer‑protection lawsuits for those acts. The law does not protect them when they know the content is unlawful or deceptive.
Beginning November 1, 2026, actions or deals regulated by the Oklahoma Corporation Commission are not covered by the Oklahoma Consumer Protection Act. Actions another state or federal regulator is allowed or required to take under law are also outside this Act. Regulated companies and officers are not sued under this Act for those regulated matters. Other, non‑exempt conduct remains covered.
Beginning November 1, 2026, money collected as the gross receipts tax on mixed beverages, sales tax, or use tax is outside the Oklahoma Consumer Protection Act when it is sent to the tax authority. Claims for injuries or damages that are actually those tax monies are also outside this Act. Payers and businesses cannot use this law to challenge those tax collections once remitted.
