The law creates the Grow Your Own Educator Program at the State Department of Education. Eligible Oklahoma school districts can get matching grants to help employees pay tuition, course fees, or student loans. Employees must be in an accredited teacher program that leads to a standard teaching certificate, or in approved alternative‑certification coursework. Eligible nondegree classes may include classroom management, pedagogy, student assessment, special education, and instructional methods. Grants are first‑come, first‑served and depend on money in the Grow Your Own Educator Revolving Fund.
Districts apply on the State Department’s form. The application must state the grant amount requested, the employee’s job, and the subject area. If a district gets a grant, it must file an electronic report each year by June 30, starting in 2027. The report must show the employee’s progress in the teacher program or their employment status. Each year by December 31, starting in 2027, the State Department reports recipients, amounts, and subject areas to state leaders. The State Board of Education sets program rules and approves eligible courses and alternative‑certification programs.
