Petition address privacy limits public access

The law took effect upon becoming law. In Tennessee, addresses on nominating petitions for judge, chancellor, district attorney general, and public defender are confidential. These addresses are no longer open to public inspection under the usual public records rules. Only candidates or law enforcement authorities can request them, in anticipation of or during a candidacy or election contest. Requesters must certify their reason on the coordinator of elections' form under penalty of perjury.
