Beginning July 1, 2026, Tennessee school districts must have a student's existing disability-plan services ready when enrollment begins. This applies to military dependents enrolling in public school under Tennessee Code § 49-6-3101(b). Covered plans are active Section 504 plans, individualized family service plans, and individualized education programs.
Beginning July 1, 2026, eligible military dependents in grades 11 or 12 can stay at their Tennessee high school. This applies when a service member's move on military orders causes the student to live outside the district. The school must be run by the local school board for the district where the student is enrolled. The district must allow enrollment to continue until graduation or withdrawal, despite any conflicting law.
Beginning July 1, 2026, Tennessee districts must allow eligible military dependents to enroll before moving into the requested school's zone. The student must already live in the district because a service member relocated on military orders. The parent must intend to live in that school's zone within one calendar year after enrollment. By that deadline, the parent must provide proof that the student lives in the zone. Without timely proof, the district may require a transfer to the school assigned to the student's home address.
