Defendants on bail face detention

Beginning July 1, 2026, Tennessee courts may temporarily revoke any court-approved bond, including release on a promise to appear. Courts may hold defendants without bail for up to 10 days while awaiting a bail revocation hearing. Grounds include breaking a release rule, facing charges for an offense committed while released, or disrupting trial or other court proceedings. The court must file a written order and give notice of the hearing. After the hearing, a court finding that a bond condition was violated allows permanent bond revocation. The court may then hold the defendant without bail pending trial or without release during trial.
