Non-Tennessee citizens gain personal police records access

Beginning July 1, 2026, people who are not Tennessee citizens can inspect or get copies of qualifying law enforcement records. The records must concern only the requester, including arrest, incident, and crash reports, as well as citations. You must submit a written request naming the record and a copy of valid government-issued photo identification. You must also submit a signed affidavit confirming that the record concerns only you. This law does not authorize release of records protected by confidentiality laws, Tennessee Criminal Procedure Rule 16, or investigative privilege. The records custodian may charge reasonable costs to produce the records.
