New paperwork for Utah commercial drivers

Beginning May 6, 2026, Utah commercial class A, B, or C license applicants must sign an English-skills acknowledgment. It explains that passing the skills test requires English for public conversations, traffic signs and signals, official questions, and reports and records. The Driver License Division must keep the form; the English standard does not change. Temporary commercial license applicants must also provide their Utah home address. The address requirement does not apply if the Division accepts their proof of homelessness under its rules.

New reporting rules for commercial driving tests

Beginning May 6, 2026, Utah's Driver License Division must keep records of applicants who fail commercial driving skills tests. It must also record applicants who do not take the test because of their English proficiency. Each record must include the commercial driver training school the applicant attended. Utah rules must set procedures for third-party testers and examiners to report these cases to the Division.
