More excused activity absences for students

Beginning July 1, 2026, Utah students get more ways to have activity-related school absences excused. A parent must provide a reason, and the student must maintain a cumulative GPA of at least 2.0. Qualifying activities include mountain biking, shooting sports, or a qualifying Utah State University youth development program. That program uses hands-on learning, mentoring, and community clubs or activities to teach agriculture, science, technology, engineering, math, civic engagement, leadership, and healthy living.
