Food safety managers renew less often

Beginning May 6, 2026, certified food safety managers who keep managing a food service establishment renew every five years instead of three. The health department sets renewal requirements by rule, consistent with the original certification requirements. Managers must send proof to the appropriate local health department within 30 days after completing renewal requirements.

Fewer food rules for nonprofit fundraisers

Beginning May 6, 2026, nonprofit-hosted or sponsored fundraisers qualify for an exemption from Utah’s general food service establishment requirements. A food service establishment must donate the food, and one of its certified food safety managers must stay on site. Utah’s health department cannot require the donating establishment to get extra training, pay extra fees, or undergo extra testing for donating, delivering, or serving that food. Other applicable state food safety laws still apply.
