Utah water suppliers must plan for emergencies
Beginning May 6, 2026, Utah community water suppliers must prepare emergency plans. Systems serving 3,300 or more people must finish by December 31, 2026; smaller systems must finish by July 1, 2027. Plans are due each July 1 afterward, and suppliers must report completion to the Division of Drinking Water each July 1. Plans must cover security, cybersecurity, training, assessments, access removal, manual operation, and incident reporting. Suppliers must provide plans and related information when requested; the director checks compliance and provides information and technical resources. Suppliers must report discovered security breaches to the Utah Cyber Center within two hours. The center must notify the division as soon as possible, no later than one day after receiving a report.
Water security records get disclosure protections
Beginning May 6, 2026, Utah protects records related to drinking-water and wastewater emergency plans and incident reports from public disclosure. This keeps sensitive facility security details private but limits public access to those records.
