Utah removes safety inspection fee caps

Beginning May 6, 2026, Utah safety inspection stations with valid permits can charge a reasonable labor fee without fixed dollar caps. The old caps were $14 for motorcycles and street-legal all-terrain vehicles, $30 for most vehicles, and $40 for certain complex inspections. Stations must clearly post their fee before the inspection. Drivers getting safety inspections may pay more, but the law sets no specific new fee.
