New licensing rules for carbon dioxide servicers

Starting January 1, 2027, Utah requires business licenses and individual technician certifications to service carbon dioxide systems with capacities of at least 100 pounds. Covered work includes inspection, installation, maintenance, repair, and changes to systems that store, use, or dispense carbon dioxide. Applicants must apply, show required skills, and pay board-set fees; the law does not set dollar amounts. Fire officers are exempt from certification, as are trainees working no more than 45 business days under a currently certified person's supervision. The Utah Fire Prevention Board sets qualification, renewal, and revocation rules, and the state fire marshal issues credentials and enforces requirements.
