Utah's child tax credit provides up to $1,000 per qualifying child on your state income tax return. The law limits eligibility to children under six on the last day of your tax year. You must also be eligible to claim the federal child tax credit for that child. The income threshold rises from $27,000 to $30,500 for married couples filing separately. It rises from $43,000 to $49,000 for single or head-of-household filers, and from $54,000 to $61,000 for joint filers. Above your threshold, the credit drops by 10 cents for each dollar of modified adjusted gross income. That income includes adjusted gross income, interest excluded from it, and additions required by Utah law. The credit cannot exceed your Utah income tax bill and remains subject to Utah's existing tax-credit limits. Unused credit cannot be moved to earlier or later tax years. The law takes effect May 6, 2026, and applies retroactively to tax years beginning on or after January 1, 2026.
