Required rest breaks for Utah student-athletes

Beginning August 1, 2026, Utah public schools can join or pay dues only to sports associations with required rest-break policies. These policies must restrict athletic activities statewide during Independence Day, Thanksgiving, and winter breaks. Each sport must have summer breaks set at the state, region, district, or school level. Each sport must also have an off-season break of at least six weeks. Policies may allow reasonable adjustments for rural schools and regions. They may exempt weight training or conditioning not tied to a specific team or sport. Associations must set penalties for member schools that break their rules and enforce those penalties equally.
