New training rules for Utah landscapers

Beginning May 6, 2026, Utah's licensing division must identify the specialty contractor class that mainly does landscape work. Contractors in that class must spend at least one of six required continuing education hours on landscaping each two-year renewal cycle. That hour must cover water-saving landscaping or landscaping that reduces fire risks. Water topics include Utah's water scarcity, drought-tolerant native plants, efficient irrigation, and soil treatments that help retain water. Fire topics include landscape designs that prevent fire spread and using rocks, concrete, and similar materials as barriers.
