Public access to Utah government spending

Beginning May 6, 2026, Utah government income and spending records are generally public. These include budgets, grants, financial accounts, vouchers, financial reports, and general ledgers. Records of payments to contractors, vendors, and private providers are also generally public. Agencies can still withhold portions covered by an express disclosure exemption.

Privacy for homeowners receiving property tax relief

Beginning May 6, 2026, Utah agencies can classify records revealing receipt of specified property tax relief as private. This covers exemptions under Section 59-2-1106 and exemptions, deferrals, abatements, or other relief under Title 59, Chapter 2a. The protection applies only to record portions properly classified as private. It protects recipients’ privacy but limits public access; relief amounts and eligibility rules do not change.

Victim names removed from police report definition

Beginning May 6, 2026, the law no longer lists victims’ names in the definition of initial police contact reports. This supports victim privacy but narrows the information listed for these public reports. Initial contact reports remain generally public, subject to disclosure exceptions.
