Utah registration alone stops triggering insurance

Utah residents no longer need vehicle liability coverage just because their vehicle is registered. Coverage remains required whenever the vehicle is operated on a Utah highway or quasi-public road or parking area. The effective date is May 6, 2026, unless the law receives the required two-thirds vote for an earlier start. With that vote, it takes effect upon governor approval or on the date of a veto override. Without a signature, it takes effect the day after the constitutional signing deadline.
