Beginning May 6, 2026, Utah law adds licensed residential support programs as settings for Medicaid coverage of recreational therapy. Programs must be accredited by the American Camp Association. Medicaid enrollees need a referral from a mental health therapist. Services must come from someone authorized to practice recreational therapy. Coverage in these programs depends on federal approval of the needed Medicaid waiver or state plan amendment.
