Clearer autism therapist coverage information for families

Beginning September 1, 2027, Utah's insurance department must post easy-to-find information showing which health plans reimburse therapists for autism treatment. This covers mental health therapists who are not physicians or psychologists. Families can use the information to compare plans. The posting requirement ends January 1, 2030.

Limits on insurer reviews of autism care

Beginning May 6, 2026, providers must send insurers a treatment plan within 14 business days after autism treatment starts. Insurers can request a treatment review no more than once every three months. Reviews can consider treatment goals and progress. If an insurer stops treatment because of a review, that decision can be appealed under Utah's existing insurance appeals law.
