Therapy choices and cost protections for patients
Beginning January 1, 2027, Utah health policies requiring a primary care choice for best coverage must allow participating physical therapists. The therapist must be qualified and willing to provide primary care as the plan defines it. Therapists must still stay within their legal scope of practice. Plans must explain the provider choices and cannot charge extra solely because you select a provider under these options. For plans started or renewed on or after January 1, 2027, covered physical therapy visits get cost protections. Their copays, coinsurance, and office-visit deductibles cannot exceed those for a primary care visit.
