New school boards gain officer term options

Beginning May 6, 2026, Utah school boards for new districts can choose special first terms for their presidents and vice presidents. Each term covers the rest of the calendar year when the officer is sworn in as a board member. The board can add either one or three full calendar years, instead of using the usual two-year term. This changes board leadership terms, not household benefits, costs, or duties.
