Schools add threat training and reviews
Beginning July 1, 2026, school safety reviews must evaluate student threat assessment information for safety needs or gaps. Each school or K–12 campus within a local education agency must be reviewed at least once every three years. The Utah School Safety Center must train local education agencies on threat assessment procedures. It must also set best practices for threat assessment teams and information sharing.
Schools share threat records without written consent
Beginning July 1, 2026, Utah’s education information system must connect to the state public safety portal. It must collect and report student threat information from local education agencies. Education entities may collect and share threat assessment information without written consent only when needed to protect students, staff, or school property. Sharing is limited to authorized personnel and must follow required procedures. Student data managers may also share this information with authorized education entities or law enforcement agencies under the same safety and procedural limits.
