Utah doctors gain protections for execution decisions
Beginning May 6, 2026, Utah's licensed physicians, including osteopathic physicians, have new protections under professional conduct rules. Refusing to take part in a legally authorized execution is not unprofessional conduct. Taking part is also not unprofessional conduct when doctors follow state law and Department of Corrections protocols.
