Utah matches federal rules for approved drugs

Beginning May 6, 2026, Utah automatically matches federal drug schedules for certain medicines. The medicines must have Food and Drug Administration approval following clinical trials and contain a federally listed Schedule I substance. When the federal government assigns the approved medicine to Schedule II, III, IV, or V, Utah uses that same schedule. This applies to the approved medicine, not all forms of the substance. The law does not provide household payments or guarantee lower drug costs.
