Parents get school device monitoring and filters

Beginning July 1, 2026, Utah school internet policies must require a system letting parents review student activity on school-managed devices. Policies must also require extra filtering when a parent requests it for a student using a school-approved electronic device. That filter allows only websites or online resources approved in advance by the school board or a school administrator.

Public oversight of school internet safeguards

Beginning July 1, 2026, Utah school boards must direct development of school internet policies, approve them in open meetings, and set start dates. Boards must review policies at least every three years, footnote the latest review date, and post clear notices at each school. Policies must restrict sites containing obscene material and explain how boards meet school internet access requirements. They must tell the public about staff enforcement rules and procedures for complaints about the policy, enforcement, or observed behavior. Those procedures must be available for review at the school.
