Effective immediately upon becoming law, Wyoming's law lets volunteer firefighters, emergency medical technicians, and search-and-rescue volunteers join the state employees' health plan even if they qualify for Affordable Care Act marketplace coverage. Eligibility for other government-sponsored health coverage still bars continued participation. Volunteers can enroll within 31 days after the section's enactment or within 31 days after completing 90 days of initial volunteering. Later enrollment is allowed under conditions set by the state department. An employer or first responder department can choose to pay part of a volunteer's premium; no contribution is required or specified. Volunteers remain responsible for submitting monthly premiums, using procedures the state department must establish. They now submit proof of continued volunteer status annually instead of monthly, with their supervisor's review and signature.
