Beginning July 1, 2025, Wyoming reimburses districts for qualifying K-12 leases, including space used by charter schools. The space must be excluded from the district’s square footage used to calculate major maintenance funding. Payment covers the lower of the total lease amount or comparable lease cost per square foot times allowed square feet. Allowed space must be needed for the required education program. For covered district-owned facilities in the state database, leases must require owners to maintain buildings to state adequacy standards. Leases must separately list major maintenance costs, and that money must be tracked separately and used only for major maintenance. Spending requires advance district or charter school approval; either can ask the State Construction Department to review whether costs are reasonable.
