New crash reporting rules for Wyoming drivers
Beginning July 1, 2025, Wyoming drivers must immediately notify law enforcement by the quickest means after crashes causing injury or death. Notice is also required when a vehicle cannot be driven normally and safely, excluding bicycles and other human-powered vehicles. The old $1,000 property-damage reporting threshold is removed. Within a municipality, drivers notify local police; elsewhere, they notify the nearest state highway patrol office or county sheriff’s office. Investigating officers must report crashes causing bodily injury, death, or a vehicle that cannot be driven normally and safely. They must send a written report to the Wyoming Highway Department within 10 days after the investigation. Officers can prepare reports after vehicles are moved if participants or witnesses tell them a vehicle is no longer operable.
