Beginning July 1, 2025, Wyoming extends its veteran property tax exemption to surviving parents when there is no surviving spouse. The deceased person must have qualified for the veteran exemption or died while serving honorably during a qualifying war, conflict, or period. The veteran and parent must have lived in Wyoming when the veteran died. Parents must have been bona fide Wyoming residents for at least three years when claiming. Qualifying property can be owned by the claimant, their spouse, or their parents. Property in a trust created by or for their benefit also qualifies. A valid contract for deed also qualifies, with evidence recorded with the county clerk. Claimants must file a sworn claim and supporting property evidence with the property's county assessor by the fourth Monday in May. Each person can claim in only one Wyoming county. Divorced parents living separately can each qualify, and can file in different counties if they live in different counties. The Department of Revenue must issue any needed rules; that requirement took effect when the act became law.
