Wyoming exempts people who only practice natural hair braiding from state cosmetology rules, treating it separately from barbering and hairstyling. Covered services include twisting, wrapping, weaving, extending, locking or braiding hair by hand or with braiding tools. They also include decorative accessories, minor trimming related to braiding, topical products, and making and lacing wigs from hair or fibers. The exemption excludes dyes, chemicals that change hair color or structure, and chemical joining agents, including synthetic tape and keratin or fusion bonds. Salon owners can still require private certification for braiders working at their salons, but the law does not require certification. The exemption took effect immediately when the bill became law.
