Wyoming makes city boundary surveys optional

Beginning July 1, 2025, Wyoming cities and towns no longer must survey boundaries after annexation. Local leaders may order surveys by ordinance when boundaries are uncertain or cannot be determined. Surveys still require sturdy boundary markers and reports describing boundary distances and directions, referencing federal surveys where applicable. Surveyors must give local leaders the report and file field notes with the city or town clerk. That clerk must file report and field-note copies with the county clerk, certified by the mayor and local clerk. The law does not directly change residents’ boundaries, taxes, or service eligibility.
