Did you know2023
Wolong Electric supplies BLDC motors for Chinese home appliances (air conditioners, refrigerators, washing machines for Haier, Midea, and Hisense) AND industrial motors for European manufacturing through ATB Austria -- from the same Chinese-controlled corporate group. European industrial plant operators buying ATB-branded motors for their manufacturing equipment, and Chinese consumers running air conditioners made with Wolong motors, share a common Chinese corporate owner. A Chinese government trade restriction, an export control on Chinese motor manufacturing, or a Wolong corporate distress event would simultaneously affect Chinese appliance motor supply (for global appliance OEMs manufacturing in China) and European industrial motor supply (through ATB facilities in Austria). European industrial procurement teams buying 'Austrian-branded' ATB motors may not recognize that their supply chain depends on a Shaoxing, Zhejiang Chinese conglomerate.
ATB Austria Antriebstechnik AG ↗Origin2023
Wolong Electric was founded in 1984 in Shaoxing, Zhejiang Province -- the same eastern Chinese province that produced Alibaba (Hangzhou, Zhejiang), NetEase (Hangzhou), and dozens of other Chinese technology and industrial companies. Wolong grew from a small township motor workshop to a listed conglomerate through China's appliance manufacturing boom in the 1990s and 2000s. The 2011 acquisition of ATB (Antriebstechnik Bachofen AG, Austria) -- a European industrial motor maker with roots in the 1930s -- was Wolong's entry into the European industrial market and gave it engineering and regulatory expertise for IE3/IE4 efficiency-class motors required by European industrial regulations. ATB's Austrian heritage and EU market relationships allowed Wolong to sell in European industrial markets without the Chinese-brand perception barriers that limit Chinese motor brands in European procurement. A Chinese appliance motor company now operates European industrial motor factories and markets under an Austrian heritage brand.
