Blackwater Trading Post land added to reservation

The law takes the Blackwater Trading Post Land into federal trust for the Gila River Indian Community. The parcel is about 55.3 acres in Pinal County, Arizona, bordered by Community land and State Highway 87. The Community must give the land to the Secretary, ask for trust status, do any survey the Secretary requires, and pay any survey costs. After the Secretary takes it into trust, the land becomes part of the Community’s Reservation, which includes the original reservation and any lands later placed in trust.

Public map and legal description posted

The official survey map dated October 15, 2012 is the reference for the parcel. Within 180 days after enactment, the Secretary publishes the full metes-and-bounds description in the Federal Register, which becomes the official description. Within 180 days after the land is taken into trust, the map is filed and open to the public in the Secretary’s offices.

No casino gaming on this parcel

Once the land is in trust, the law bans Class II and Class III gaming on this parcel. These are casino-style games under the Indian Gaming Regulatory Act. The ban applies only to this parcel and has no end date.
