Medicaid yearly mammograms for women
If enacted, Medicaid would cover one screening mammogram each year for women over age 29 starting January 1, 2027. States could get the higher federal matching rate (FMAP) for these screenings. This change would apply to items and services furnished on or after January 1, 2027.
Private plans must cover yearly mammograms
If enacted, group health plans and individual market issuers would have to cover annual screening mammograms for women over age 29. The requirement would apply to plan years beginning on or after January 1, 2027. This would increase access to yearly screening and could lower out-of-pocket costs for affected enrollees.
Medicare no-cost mammograms with limits
If enacted, Medicare would prohibit beneficiary cost-sharing for screening mammograms performed on or after January 1, 2027. Medicare payment would equal 100 percent of the lesser of the actual charge or the Medicare fee schedule for these screenings. The bill would also stop Medicare payment for screening mammograms on women under 30 and would deny payment if a screening is done within 11 months after the month of a prior screening.
