Funding boost for public access program
If enacted, this bill would provide $150 million in mandatory Commodity Credit Corporation funds for fiscal years 2025–2029 to the Voluntary Public Access and Habitat Incentive Program. The Agriculture Department would use the money to help states and tribal governments open private lands to the public and improve habitat. To the maximum extent practicable, $3 million of the total would be used in 2025–2029 to encourage access on lands with wetland reserve easements. This could mean more places to hunt, fish, and enjoy nature, and payments for enrolled landowners. Funding would end after fiscal year 2029.
