HR1630119th Congress

To allow States to elect to observe year-round daylight saving time, and for other purposes.

Sponsored By: Representative Rogers, Mike D. [R-AL-3]

Introduced

Summary

Gives states the option to observe daylight saving time year-round. This bill would change the Uniform Time Act so a state could, by law, either adopt the standard time described in paragraph (1) for the whole state or apply the advancement of time (daylight saving time) for the full year to the area of the state that lies within any time zone. It replaces unclear wording to make those options explicit and lets states pick year‑round daylight saving time for all or part of their territory.

States could choose year-round daylight time

This bill would let a state pass a law to stay on daylight saving time all year. A state could either choose one standard time for the whole state or apply year-round daylight time to the entire area in any time zone. The bill clarifies which "standard time" the law refers to. If enacted, changes would take effect upon enactment. People could see more evening light but darker mornings.
