Protecting America’s Strategic Petroleum Reserve from China Act

Sponsored By: Representative Weber, Randy K. Sr. [R-TX-14]

Introduced

Summary

Blocks sales of Strategic Petroleum Reserve oil to China. This bill would bar the Secretary of Energy from drawing down or selling petroleum products from the Strategic Petroleum Reserve to the People's Republic of China or to any entity under the ownership, control, or influence of the Chinese Communist Party. Any sale to such an entity would have to include an explicit condition that the petroleum will not be exported to the People's Republic of China. The prohibition would apply even if another law would otherwise allow the sale.

Blocks SPR oil sales to China

This bill would bar the Energy Department from selling Strategic Petroleum Reserve oil to companies tied to the Chinese Communist Party. Other SPR sales would be allowed only if the oil will not be exported to China. It would take effect upon enactment. If passed, this could help keep more oil in the U.S. and may support steadier gas prices.
