Justice for America’s Veterans and Survivors Act of 2025
Sponsored By: Representative Edwards, Chuck [R-NC-11]
In Committee
Summary
Annual report on causes of death among veterans would require the Secretary of Veterans Affairs to send Congress a standardized, data-driven report every year. The report would list for each veteran who died during the period whether they had a total service-connected disability, the primary and any secondary causes of death, and whether the death was a suicide linked to a total service-connected disability, and it would include totals for each primary cause.

- Families and veteran communities: Would gain clearer, consistent data on how service-connected disabilities relate to causes of death, including suicides, to guide advocacy and support efforts.
- Congress and oversight offices: Would receive per-veteran details and per-cause totals to inform policy decisions and oversight of veteran health programs.
- Researchers and public health officials: Would get standardized national mortality data focused on veterans to study trends and target interventions.
- Department of Veterans Affairs: Would see expanded reporting duties and a new statutory table entry to reflect the annual reporting requirement.
