Research access to anonymized VA benefits data
If enacted, VA would run a secure data system for five years after enactment. Approved researchers who meet VA security rules would get access to anonymized, individual-level VA benefits records. Data would include age, sex, race, service branch and time served, number of dependents, and State. It would show each disability claim’s result, diagnostic code, filing date, and decision date, plus yearly amounts by benefit type like disability pay, DIC, education, home loans, special monthly compensation, and unemployability. No personal identifiers would be shared, and each record would use a unique ID.
