This bill would direct the Comptroller General to study how federal, state, local, and Tribal authorities can be changed to improve and expand cross-boundary wildfire mitigation and to recommend ways to streamline collaboration and funding across jurisdictions.

  • Families and communities: Seeks recommendations to better protect communities and prevent the loss of structures from wildfire.
  • Federal and state agencies: Would examine whether changes to programs, rules, or statutory definitions would give covered agencies increased capacity or access to funding to mitigate wildfires and improve forest health. The Comptroller General would report findings and recommendations to specified congressional committees within 2 years.
  • Tribal, local, and other partners: Reviews activities under specific authorities such as the Healthy Forests Restoration Act, the Cooperative Forestry Assistance Act, the Good Neighbor authority, the Tribal Forest Protection Act, and the collaborative forest landscape restoration program to identify how to improve effectiveness and simplify cross-jurisdictional projects.
