Small farms’ in-state meat sales without federal inspection
If enacted, custom slaughter facilities could sell meat only inside their state without federal inspection, if they follow state law. Buyers would be in-state households or in-state restaurants, hotels, boarding houses, and grocery stores that sell straight to consumers. Transport in commerce would be allowed only within that state and under those limits. State rules would still apply and would not be overridden by this change. This could mean more local meat choices, but without federal inspection.
