Bill Overview

Analyzed Economic Effects

2 provisions identified: 2 benefits, 0 costs, 0 mixed.

Cash for long flight delays

This bill would require DOT to set rules for cash when flights arrive very late. For domestic flights, arriving 3 or more hours late would qualify. For international flights, arriving 6 or more hours late would qualify. Airlines would have to pay at least $200 and up to $500, based on the delay length. You would need to arrive at your destination, and DOT would set the exact payment steps.

Stronger airline refunds and fee transparency

This bill would make two DOT consumer rules into law. They are the April 26, 2024 refund rule (89 Fed. Reg. 32760) and the April 30, 2024 fee transparency rule (89 Fed. Reg. 34620). If enacted, passengers would have stronger refund rights and clearer disclosure of airline add-on fees.
