PEARL Act
Sponsored By: Representative Joyce, David P. [R-OH-14]
Passed House
Summary
Creates a 3-year CBP pilot to adopt local shelter dogs and train them as support canines for Customs and Border Protection. It would require the Secretary of Homeland Security, acting through the CBP Commissioner, to establish the pilot within 60 days of enactment. The pilot would terminate three years after it begins. The bill prohibits any additional appropriations for this section, so CBP would have to use existing funding authorities to run the program.
