HR9627119th Congress

Hmong Congressional Gold Medal Act

Sponsored By: Representative Grothman, Glenn [R-WI-6]

Introduced

Summary

Recognizes the Hmong people's distinguished service in the Vietnam War and the broader fight against communism by authorizing a Congressional Gold Medal. The bill would direct the Secretary of the Treasury to strike a gold medal for presentation on behalf of Congress, give that medal to the Smithsonian for display with preference for locations linked to Hmong service, and allow the sale of bronze duplicates at prices that cover production costs. It would also treat the medals as national medals and as numismatic items, and includes findings about CIA recruitment, more than 30,000 Hmong who served, postwar displacement, and a U.S. Hmong population of over 327,000.
