Would designate September 14–18, 2026 as Malnutrition Awareness Week to raise awareness that malnutrition is a widespread public health problem and to promote prevention, screening, and community nutrition services across the lifespan.
Show full summary
- Families and children: Highlights that missing key nutrients in early childhood can cause lifelong harm, and points to higher food-insecurity rates for some groups, which worsens malnutrition risk.
- Older adults and health care systems: Notes that as many as half of older adults are malnourished or at risk and that disease-associated malnutrition in older adults costs about $51.3 billion a year.
- Health workers and community programs: Recognizes registered dietitian nutritionists, school and home-delivered meal programs, federal child and Older Americans Act nutrition programs, community organizations, and calls for continued nutrition research and a Medicare-related Malnutrition Care Score electronic quality measure.
