National Native Plant Month would designate April 2025 to spotlight native plants and their role in resilient ecosystems. The resolution defines native plants as species that evolved with local wildlife and notes more than 17,000 native species in the United States. It highlights that native plants clean air, filter water, stabilize soils, and provide nectar, pollen, seeds, and shelter for pollinators, birds, and other wildlife. The text also notes habitat loss, extreme weather, and invasive species have contributed to the loss of over 200 native plant species since the early 1800s.
