Summary

National Extreme Heat Awareness Week highlights extreme heat risks and boosts public education and preparedness. This resolution would recognize July 3–10, 2025 as National Extreme Heat Awareness Week and would support research, policy work, and stepped-up public outreach. It notes extreme heat is the leading weather-related cause of death in the United States with more than 1,300 deaths annually, including more than 570 in New York and more than 750 in Arizona as of 2024. It cites 1,420 workplace injuries in trade, transportation, and utilities in 2021–2022 and says heat-driven drops in labor productivity cost the economy billions. The resolution invites communities, schools, public entities, and private groups to observe the week and promote proven preventive measures.
